Restoring Pennefather Beach: Napranum’s Historic Clean-Up

We’re incredibly grateful to the Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council community on the West Coast of Cape York for the amazing shirts we received today. They’re a wonderful reminder of our time at the Pennefather Beach Clean-Up last September.

A Meaningful Journey to Pennefather Beach

Our Co-Founders, Wendy Kent and Royston Kent, were honoured to be invited by the Tangaroa Blue Foundation — led by Brett and Heidi Tait — to join an important environmental mission in Weipa and Pennefather Beach.

This trip was full of mixed emotions: sadness, heartbreak, shock, anger, accomplishment, teamwork, laughter, and adventure. The scale of pollution was overwhelming — thousands of thongs, plastic bottles, oil containers, and commercial fishing gear littered this remote and beautiful coastline.

Immediate Impact: Over 800kg of Waste Collected

The clean-up began with a heavy heart, but the team’s efforts showed immediate results. After just one day, more than 800 kilograms of waste had been collected. This was a shocking amount, but it also demonstrated how collective action can make a difference.

A Historic First for Napranum Community

We want to extend our deepest thanks to the Napranum Traditional Owners’ Elders, Rangers, and families for inviting the Tangaroa Blue Foundation to lead the first-ever beach clean-up in this region. Their leadership and collaboration were crucial in making this historic event possible.

Our Commitment to Protecting Cape York

At B&C Plastics, we are proud to support initiatives that protect Australia’s unique environments. This clean-up is just one example of our commitment to community and sustainability, working together to create a cleaner, healthier future.
