B&C Embraces Lean Manufacturing Principles in Logan
Learning by Doing: Lean Principles in Action
At B&C Plastics, continuous improvement is part of our DNA — and this week, Megan Hibbert (Business Services Manager) and Adam Drinkwater (Production Manager) took that commitment to the next level.
They attended a LEAN Manufacturing Workshop hosted by the SEQ Manufacturing Hub (Gold Coast Manufacturing Hub) and Logan City Council. The workshop focused on productivity improvement, using hands-on simulations to demonstrate core lean manufacturing principles in both production and office environments.
Why Lean Manufacturing Matters
The workshop, led by Michael Morrow (Industrial Engineer at 2Morrow Solutions), gave attendees practical experience with key lean techniques designed to streamline operations and reduce waste.
Megan and Adam explored:
Waste Reduction – Identifying and eliminating inefficiencies
Value Stream Mapping (VSM) – Visualising processes to pinpoint improvement areas
5S – Organising the workplace for efficiency and safety
Teamwork – Promoting collaboration for continuous improvement
Set-Up Reduction – Minimising downtime between tasks
Pull Systems (Kanban) – Improving flow and responsiveness
Visual Performance Measurement (VPM) – Using data to drive change
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) – Maximising equipment efficiency
Standard Work – Documenting best practices
Focused Improvement – Tackling specific pain points in operations
A Culture of Growth in Logan
We’re grateful to Logan City Council for providing this kind of opportunity to local manufacturers. Their ongoing support through grants, resources, and business connections reinforces our decision to remain proudly based in the Logan area.
This workshop is already influencing our internal discussions, especially as we navigate an exciting phase of transformation. With new machinery, fresh strategies, and updated layouts, it feels like a brand-new chapter — even after all these years in operation.
The Road Ahead
Armed with new tools and renewed inspiration, Megan and Adam are eager to start implementing lean practices that will shape the future of B&C Plastics. We're committed to building a smarter, more efficient business that delivers even greater value to our customers — and it’s exciting to feel like we’re just getting started.
